Streets of Rage 4

I bought this for the Nintendo Switch and it’s delightful. The graphics are beautiful, the controls handle like a Streets of Rage game, the difficulty is challenging and it has a cracking soundtrack.

I really like this.

This is a small command-line program for OS X that moves files or folders to the trash.

Every Friday at 11:11 I’ll share a playlist of some of the tracks I’ve been listening to during the week.

Sade’s Quiet Storm of Cool

Much of the current fascination with Sade derives from the fact that her fans know so little about her, starting with the pronunciation of her name. (Many Americans believe it’s pronounced Shar-day; it’s Sha-day.) In an era that rewards people less for their talent than for their associations with other famous people and the ability to leverage those associations over Instagram and Twitter, Sade’s disinterest in self-promotion has had a reverse effect.

Looks like a spider. Moves like a spider

Aesthetically and behaviourally realistic, the T8X is the only robot in the market that combines so much resemblance to a real spider with fine movements, programmability, and customisability.

One person’s history of Twitter, from beginning to end

This was my first look at Twitter, or twttr, as it was annoyingly called then. I was right about the logo and wrong about the service. It wasn’t stupid, it was just hard to explain. So Noah showed it to me, and I still thought it was stupid. I’ll admit that it took me a while to get it. I didn’t care what people were having for lunch. I didn’t care where people were at. (Remember, this was also the golden age of check-in services, where people made sure all their friends knew where they were at all times lest they subject themselves to a moment of introspection.)

Really great article.

Visitor detects text-only and link changes on each site’s homepage. There’s still optimizing to do, but this technique seems to cut out the majority of false-positives. Crawling typically happens several time a day per site, depending on the response latency and if the site has any followers. Users cannot see information about one another, except to see how many followers each site has.

Wikipedia’s list of stews

This is a list of notable stews. A stew is a combination of solid food ingredients that have been cooked in liquid and served in the resultant gravy. Ingredients in a stew can include any combination of vegetables (such as carrots, potatoes, beans, onions, peppers, tomatoes, etc.), plus meat, especially tougher meats suitable for slow-cooking, such as beef. Poultry, pork, lamb or mutton, sausages, and seafood are also used.

Searching for Tomorrow: The Story of Madlib and DOOM’s Madvillainy

The label asked Madlib to re-do a few beats, but he said he forgot the sample sources. Then DOOM demanded to alter some tracks. Everyone grew frustrated. Compounding the anxiety, Alapatt, the project’s chief A&R, realized it lacked a legitimate ending. With less than a week left to turn the record into the distributor, they rented DOOM a $60-an-hour studio. Selecting the beat for “Rhinestone Cowboy”, the villain smashed in timely fashion.
